If it’s not broke don’t fix it. Tradition and pride trump money any day. You’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. There was NOTHING wrong with “The Lady Vols” so why change it? I really don’t know why you’d remove Lady, as it’s NOT a sign of disrespect to women. On the other hand, the NFL refuses to do anything about the “Redskins.” BRING BACK THE LADY!

Dave Hart was loudly booed at last year’s SEC Tournament. He will have oranges thrown at him at the 2015 Tourney if he goes through with removing the Lady Vol brand. Shame on him—-leave it alone–it is a UT legacy to be proud of! The entire country respects the Lady Vols!

It is an honor to wear and be known as a Lady Vol! My granddaughter had high hopes of attending the University of Tennessee and becoming a “Lady Vol”, but if Mr. Hart has his way, she will go elsewhere. Hello Tyler!!!!

Leave the Lady Vols name as it is. That’s what we all know & love, why change it? Does not make any sense to change it. Leave it like it is.

My heart aches to think that my own grandchildren may not have the privilege of being called a Lady Vol “only” if she plays basketball. Any female who has the desire to be a “Lady Vol” enough to work hard and be chosen to represent our great University should forever have that privilege. I love my Lady Vols of all sports and have confidence that our leaders will reverse that proposed change.

I echo all the other comments. The name is iconic. Don’t let Nike tell us what to call our teams! It is OUR brand; they can damned well support it. Dave Hart – listen to your constituency, not the Nike corporatists.

I’ve always dreamed of being a Lady Vol. Why should we get rid of the title that so many generations of talent have worked hard to give such a great image to? I would be honored to be a LADY Vol. Let us be distinguished.

At first, I didn’t believe it. They’re doing what!?! Having worked in advertising myself, Dave Hart and whoever else dreamed this up would be fired from any worthy marketing firm. Remember New Coke? Some high flyers thought that would be a good idea, too. The fact that this is still an issue is a slap in the face to Lady Vols fans. I have a master’s from the University, and I’ve funneled many personal resources to U.T. What’s that mean now? Apparently nothing. I expect more wisdom and common sense from our administrative leadership. What are you using for brains? Don’t answer that. Children may be listening.

If you are playing any sport at the University of Tennessee and you are female you are a Lady Vol. Mr. Hart can’t you find anything worthwhile to interest you at this time, than to mess with something that is a long held, much respected title, aptly named group of female athletes who plays for the school that pays your salary?

I visit your lovely state and support athletics. I don’t, however, support the proposed change. Leave the female teams how they wish to be – separate and respected for their difference. They have just as much right to this as anyone else. Listen, and HEAR, this time.

I arrived full time on campus the same time as Coach Pat Head (now Coach Summitt) and at that time had no idea that I would witness the development of one of the proudest traditions at UTK, the Lady Vols! I don’t mean just the basketball program, but every program that carried the name. The young ladies (I use that term in the “old timey” complimentary sense!) who carried the banner in all sports were good students, good athletes, and good citizens! They graduated, they competed, they won, and they did so with class, and they make anyone with orange blood proud of the Lady Vols! Whenever there was an event or meet & greet near us, I tried to take my daughter to see and/or meet the Lady Vols because it gave her a chance to see accomplished, competitive, classy role models to emulate. Important message for Dave Hart… BRING BACK THE LADY VOLS BRAND, the PROUDEST TRADITION AT UTK! VFL1976!

As a former volleyball Lady Vol, class of 1986, I’ve discontinued my annual contribution to UTK due to this decision. I had always donated to the Lady Vol volleyball program. Now that there is no longer a Lady Vol volleyball program, UTK won’t be getting any future money from me.
Once a Lady Vol, always a Lady Vol. What a crazy decision, made by men I’m sure. Being a Lady Vol is not degrading, it’s special and I will always refer to myself as a Lady Vol. I’m sorry that future female athletes at UTK won’t get to experience the same pride I did wearing the Lady Vol colors and name.

Lady Vols is a brand earned by dedication to excellence by many Lady Vols. It is an honor, and a distinctive badge of respect. Real leaders do not create problems where there was no problem. The Volunteer Nation is a very proud fan base. We have the sense to know what we want and appreciate, and we do not need anyone taking away the things we love about the University of Tennessee.

It is hard to believe that Doug Hart has the audacity to change the name “Lady Vols” from all the Lady Events, with the exception of the Lady Vols Basketball. You have to understand he is from Alabama and it would appear he is not a fan of Lady Events at Tennessee. This has been a tradition close to 40 years. Just think, if all UT fans in all sports refrained from purchasing the Nike clothing, the message regarding the Lady Vols would be understood.

It looks like Hart is trying to bring the University of Tennessee down as low as he can. Where was he before he came to UT? The Lady Vols should stay on and forever.Hart does not seem to want Tennessee to be a great School in the SEC.

This is one of the most absurd decisions that I’ve ever seen! There is not another university in the country where “Lady” on their athletic teams means what “Lady Vols” does! If anyone cares at all, this decision will be reversed and someone will admit they were wrong!

Retain the Lady Vols for everyone!
If retaining the Lady Vol name and logo for the basketball team is a sign of respect for Pat Summitt, then retaining that name and logo for ALL women’s teams would be a sign of respect for Joan Cronin!
Joan devoted her life to making UT a great place for women’s athletic teams. The fact that in the end, it was she who was chosen as the interim AD to keep all UT athletics, men’s and women’s, on an even keel prior to the installation of Hart indicates the respect UT had for her wisdom, strength and hard work through the years with women’s program.
It is only fitting that Lady Vols be retained in respect not only for Pat but also for Joan who helped to grown all the women’s teams.
Yet, those two great women aside, it is even more fitting that the Lady Vol name and logo be kept as a sign of respect for the all the young women and the coaches who worked so hard in a time when it was not so popular, to make UT one of the most respected institutions in the nation for women in athletics.
Take pride in who we have been even as time moves on.

I agree with the majority of prior statements and proclamations. I also was on campus when Pat Head Summitt started her coaching career at UTK. I walked through the gym during a Lady Vols basketball game with the stands virtually empty. Maybe five people in attendance. To compare the number of fans then and now is mind boggling. Watching the Lady Vol Softball team at the 2015 WCWS represent the Vol nation as Lady Vols would loose meaning and strength as female representatives of the Big Orange. The track team, golfers, swimmers, divers, tennis players, volleyball and crew members who are all Lady Vols represent us throughout the nation. The Volunteers encompass all students and student athletes on campus. If you are a student fan you are still a volunteer. Like the letters before me I question the wisdom of Dave Hart – and agree 100% that the Lady Vols should be recognized in ALL of the various sports arenas. The UTK campus is stronger because of all of the Lady Vols and continues to attract strong, intelligent female student/athletes. Please do not allow the lure of money/greed to abolish this legacy for all past, present and future Lady Vols. It is one of the strongest traditions and became so by one of the strongest and most winning coach in history. It is with great pride that I declare I am a LADY VOL fan. It is with great pride that I declare I am a VOL fan. And with great pride that I am an Alum. This tradition should not ever be changed unless voted so by the tax payers of TN and the endowment/donation base. The Mantra of the LADY VOLS does not belong to any one person but belongs to the great state of Tennessee!
